Explore the colonial charm of Antigua – Guatemala’s former colonial capital city and a UNESCO World Heritage Site – and wander a modern-day Maya village on the shores of Lake Atitlan. Hunt for the Resplendent Quetzal, Guatemala’s national bird, in the cloud forest of Coban before turning north to visit the mother of all Maya sites – Tikal. Travel into Belize’s Cayo District, where you’ll find Tikal’s sister city, Caracol, along with a host of smaller but no less interesting Maya archaeological sites. DAY 1:

Fly into Guatemala City via the US (other routes available) and transfer to your hotel in the charming former colonial capital of Antigua. Welcome to Central America!

DAY 2:

Enjoy a City Tour of Antigua. Options also to visit a coffee plantation, a women’s weaving co-operative, climb nearby Pacaya Volcano or visit the Jade Museum.

DAY 3:

Travel over to Lake Atitlan – Central America’s deepest lake. Lake Atitlan is a serene and beautiful lake located in the highlands.

DAY 4:

Enjoy a full-day boat trip across Lake Atitlan, visiting some of the shore-side communities and learning about their culture and traditions.

DAY 5:

Travel on through the Highlands, passing through many remote villages only lightly touched by the modern world, to the cloud forest area of Coban.

DAY 6:

Today you’ll search for the Resplendent Quetzal, the national bird of Guatemala. Plus, there’s an opportunity to visit an Orchid Garden.

DAY 7:

Travel north up to the Tikal National Park, with an en-route visit to the Maya ruin of Ceibal, which lies among tropical rainforest.

DAY 8:

Guided visit to Tikal, the mother of all Maya sites, whose magnificent temples dominate the lush rainforest.

DAY 9:

Cross the border from Guatemala into Belize’s rainforest Cayo District. Onwards travel to your jungle lodge. Welcome to Belize!

DAYS 10 & 11:

Opportunities to explore Belize’s Maya sites, go bird-watching, hiking, horse-riding, canoeing and mountain biking.

DAY 12:

Transfer to Belize City, with en-route cave-tubing and zip-lining. Take a domestic flight to Ambergris Caye, Belize’s largest island.

DAY 13:

Snorkel or dive along the Belize Barrier Reef, the 2nd biggest Barrier Reef in the world after the Great Barrier Reef.

DAY 14:

Day at leisure. Options for snorkelling, diving, fishing, manatee-spotting – or just to simply relax on the beach or by the pool.

DAY 15:

Transfer to Ambergris Caye airstrip for your domestic flight to Belize International airport ahead of your international flights home.
